Drink Deck will donate 10% of the proceeds from its New Orleans travel guide to provide education opportunities for local bartenders.
NEW ORLEANS, LA—May 8, 2011 – Tales of the Cocktail® and Drink Deck travel guides have partnered to raise funds for the Flo Woodward Memorial Scholarship Fund. Drink Deck will donate 10% of the proceeds from its recently released New Orleans travel guide to the fund, which provides educational opportunities for New Orleans bartenders and mixologists.
“New Orleans is one of the most unique destinations in the world thanks in part to its rich food and drink culture,” said Will Glass, Owner of Drink Deck. “Educating bartenders and mixologists is an integral part of keeping this culture alive and we are proud to be a part of it.”
The Flo Woodward Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a New Orleans bartending professional to attend the 12-week Bartending/Beverage Management Course taught by Travis Sanders at the Crescent City School of Bartending and valued at $3000. The scholarship was founded to honor Floria Woodward or Ms. Flo, who tended bar at the Court of Two Sisters in New Orleans for more than 30 years. Never formally trained in her craft, Ms. Flo went on to be an award-winning mixologist and was revered by patrons for affable personality.
Drink Deck’s New Orleans guide is its third in a growing collection of travel guides for bar enthusiasts. Already in Chicago and Portland, the guide provides 52 discount gift cards, as an actual deck of playing cards or an iPhone app, that are good for $10 off or a % off a $30 minimum purchase on food and/or drink at a wide variety of bars throughout New Orleans.
