Tales of the Cocktail® Unveils its Cocktail Collection of T-Shirts

The new Ramos Gin Fizz T-shirt joins Tales of the Cocktail’s Sazerac and Vieux Carré shirts to create the Cocktail Collection.

With the release of their third cocktail-inspired t-shirt, The Ramos Gin Fizz, Tales of the Cocktail® and New Orleans retailer Fleurty Girl have created the Cocktail Collection of t-shirts. Carrying the phase “Shaking Things Up Since 1888,” the Ramos Gin Fizz t-shirt joins Tales of the Cocktail’s Sazerac shirt (released April 2010) and Vieux Carré shirt (release January 2011) to create this exclusive line of cocktail t-shirts. The Ramos Gin Fizz t-shirt will be officially unveiled this Thursday, April 21 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Tales of the Cocktail® Native Spirits Preview Party being held at the Hotel Monteleone.

“Cocktails are as much a part of New Orleans as po-boys, brake tags and makin’ groceries,” said Lauren Thom, founder of Fleurty Girl. “I’m excited to partner with Tales of the Cocktail® in creating the Cocktail Collection so people can wear a little bit of New Orleans flavor and pay homage to the city’s storied cocktail-making history.”

After Thursday’s event, Ramos Gin Fizz t-shirts, as well as Sazerac and Vieux Carré shirts, will be available for sale online at www.TalesoftheCocktail.com and www.FleurtyGirl.net as well as in Fleurty Girl’s three New Orleans stores (French Quarter, Magazine Street and the Oak Street). A portion of the proceeds of each Cocktail Collection t-shirt goes to The New Orleans Culinary & Cultural Preservation Society, which supports members of our city’s hospitality industry.

The Ramos Gin Fizz was invented in 1888 by Henry C. Ramos, at the Imperial Cabinet Saloon in New Orleans and today remains of the city’s most legendary drinks. The cocktail’s distinctive flavor comes from a delicate combination of egg whites and orange flower water. The Fizz became a widely popular in America between 1900 and the 1940s, especially in New Orleans where teams of bartenders would take turns shaking the fizzes to keep up with demand. It was such a favorite of Louisiana governor Huey P. Long that he brought New Orleans bartenders to New York to teach NYC bartenders the proper way to make a Ramos Gin Fizz.
