New Orleans’ Best Milk Punch Crowned at Tales of the Toddy

Barry Himel of Dickie Brennan’s Bourbon House created the winning cocktail, the Frozen Bourbon Milk Punch.

In addition to the one-of-a-kind cocktails and cuisine enjoyed at last night’s Tales of the Toddy, the first-ever Bourbon Milk Punch Competition settled the discussion of who has New Orleans’ best milk punch. Fourteen of the city’s best bartenders came together at the Hotel Monteleone to enter their original milk punch recipes but in the end it was Barry Himel of Dickie Brennan’s Bourbon House who won with his Frozen Bourbon Milk Punch.

“The Brennan family has a long and rich milk punch tradition,” said Himel. “I’m honored to continue that tradition with this, now, award-winning cocktail.”

Made with bourbon, milk and ice cream, the Frozen Bourbon Milk Punch puts a twist on the traditional brandy cocktail. Use the recipe below to add this cocktail treat to your holiday festivities.

Frozen Bourbon Milk Punch Recipe:

Makes 1½ Quarts

4 cups Milk
1 cup Buffalo Trace Bourbon
1/4  cup Vanilla Extract
1/4  cup Simple Syrup
