Fred Yarm is a writer, imbiber, and bitters maker in Boston, Massachusetts, and one of the authors of the Cocktail Virgin blog.
You hear a lot lately about the Golden Age of Cocktails, drinks during Prohibition, and the modern resurgence in craft cocktails; however, what happened in between those last two eras? Brian Rea, a 60 year veteran of being “behind, and in front of, bars, cocktail lounges, restaurants, nightclubs, and some unmentionable places” is a consummate story teller and will be leading the session entitled “Bartending in the 1940’s, 1950’s and 1960’s (the dark ages)”. His tales of what went on during these dark ages may amaze and shock you at times and will surely have you laughing at others. And you may realize that the bar as an institution has not changed much since the days of the Roman Empire. To hear more about this talk, read about Fred’s phone conversation with Mr. Rea.
