For a proper Ti Punch, a "rum of your choice" just doesn't cut it. It requires Rhum Agricole from Martinique, i.e. Neisson, La Favorite, Rhum J.M.

You slice off the side of a lime because 100-proof cane spirit leeches bitterness out of the rind, so it is preferable to lime wedges.

You should also use sugar cane syrup such as Petite Canne: http://www.ministryofrum.com/rumdetails.php?r=545

A proper Ti Punch is truly delicious :9
